Mere days after upgrading to WordPress 2.3.3, I’ve now upgraded to WordPress 2.5. Sean brought out that due to a security vulnerability, Technorati stopped indexing compromised blogs and strongly encouraged all 2.3.3 users to upgrade to 2.5. Say what!

The new 2.5 Dashboard is a lot slicker and web 2.0ish. Lots of Ajax and/or Javascript integration, which is nice. Things are moved around a bit which will get a bit of getting used to.

I’m totally psyched about the improvements to the editor area. I hated how it would mess with HTML code. I will hastily update the food blog, as this was one major reason why I never posted there; every post was a headache to format properly.

Maintenance Mode plug in broke on the update for me - I was logged in yet I kept getting the maintenance mode screen (which ought only to appear when not logged in). I had to delete the poor pansy. Perhaps a new rev is in store.

I just updated to the latest version of WordPress… Wahoo. I believe I was previously using 2.2.something. The plugin update notification is very nice. The canonical URL fix is also calming to my inner SEO self.

I have to get around to updating the food blog, although I should focus on posting before upgrading.

Alright boys and girls, hold on to your hats. I have launched a new food blog at yum.neatlysliced.com. It features a shiny, pretty, and delicious design and one recipe for gingersnaps.

I’m not the best cook or baker in the world, so a lot of it will feature comical tales of my cooking attempts.

If you like food, bookmark, subscribe, laugh, and share foody goodness with a cooking newbie.

NeatlySliced.com has been down for a couple of days. We switched hosts, and there was some rigmarole and miscommunications regarding the DNS, which led to massive problems with my site and CrankyBit.com.

My NeatlySliced.com email is still having problems, but otherwise everything is working as expected (hopefully!).

With this change in host, I have also made some changes to the blog. She is now upgraded to 2.1.3 (which is still old, but far better than the 2.0.* version I was running). With that, I have installed some plugins that my blog will now support.

From a user interface standpoint, the Archives have moved to their own page and I am utilizing the Clean Archives plugin first engineered by Shawn Grimes but now developed by Sean of Geek With Laptop.

From a Web 2.0 standpoint, you may now subscribe to email notifications of comments on a particular post. I don’t have a high comment frequency on this site, but regardless, you may find it of interest. To accomplish this I implement the Subscribe to Comments plugin.

Utom Box created the most beautiful Web 2.0 icons. I have implemented a few of them in this site. There is currently no Digg icon, but one of the icons provided by Digg looks Web 2.0 enough to match.

I also started using FeedBurner for my RSS feed. I was confused regarding FeedBurner before. I had thought that it was automagically creating its own feed. In reality, FeedBurner takes the feed that your blog already generates and processes it all fancylike. For example, with FeedBurner I have added the feature to “Email This”, “Save to del.icio.us”, or “Digg This” right in the RSS feed itself. Additionally, I can derive other statistics regarding the feed. As the user, you receive no significant additional benefit other than the “Email This” and bookmarking links.

One day I will change .htaccess so that the old feed automatically rewrites to the FeedBurner feed, per the instructions in this “Using FeedBurner” WP post. In the meantime, update the feed at your discretion - it makes little difference to me.

My blog is broken, I know. Something is wrong with one of the files. It is the bane of my existence. I don’t know what happened to it.

If anyone else has been having problems with cache.php on a WordPress installation for no apparent reason, you are not alone!

Amish School Shooting. This world is falling apart. Three school shootings in a week - unbelievable. The first, I thought “This is terrible!” The second, I exclaimed “This is lunacy.” Now, what is next?

I mean, seriously. What is the point of malice?
