My MacBook Etching

My MacBook Etching
Originally uploaded by ldandersen.

I’m really tempted to etch my own MacBook Pro. However, I’m questioning the cost/benefit ratio. The machine is so beautiful on its own; am I willing to forgo the possession of my computer for such a period of time as it would take to etch the fabulous piece of technology?

Regardless, this particular MacBook had an error in the etching, causing the almost scuffed appearance. Whether it attracts or defames, either way one could argue. In any vein, it is a surefire piece of personality appended to an already lavish laptop.

Solve Flickr Badge Invalid XHTML

On Flickr, I used the script to make a nasty little table based generated deal to display my photos in the sidebar. I know, I shouldn’t be so lazy and I should style out my own, but it rendered okay so why should I fear or fret?

Well, I happened along to validate my site, and lo! Invalid site! Mainly caused by my flickr table generated from Flickr’s “Make a badge”.

Well, it’s super easy to validate it. Add the emboldened lines:

<!-- Start of Flickr Badge -->
<table id="flickr_badge_uber_wrapper" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="10" border="0">
<caption style="display:none;">Flickr Uber Wrapper</caption>
<tr><td>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="10" border="0" id="flickr_badge_wrapper">
<caption style="display:none;">Flickr Badge Wrapper</caption>
<tr>
<td>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.flickr.com/badge_code_v2.gne?count=3&amp;display=latest&amp;size=s&amp;layout=v&amp;source=user&amp;user=######"></script>
</td>
</tr>

</table>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com" id="flickr_www">www.<strong style="color:#3993ff">flick<span style="color:#ff1c92">r</span></strong>.com</a>
</td></tr></table>
<!-- End of Flickr Badge -->

Of course, we should all replace this with divs, but that’s for another day.

Brief explanation: tables require a caption directly after the <table> tag in order to validate. Too, a table requires at least one row and one column in order to validate. Too, you have to replace those & with &amp;. & is an escape character, but &amp; is a literal ampersand. For URLs, you want a literal ampersand, and thus require &amp;.

No Photoshop or special effects. This is what happens when creative minds crop!

If you view the photo, there is a link to the original photo. It simply amazes me what a little bit of perspective can accomplish.

My Burner Kills Again

Burning a CD, I suddenly receive a warning: my burner has had an error.

I extract the disc, scratching my head. I look to see how much was burned. I discover a gnat, sliced by the laser of my burner! Note the skid path the gnat endured, from the middle of the disc and then resting where the burner quit writing (as it could not write beyond the gnat’s carcass).

This is one of the oddest computer related issues that I have personally encountered. Hysterical.

This has such awesome work with Photoshop. So much of a photographer’s work can be after the shot is taken (although not necessarily).
