I installed Safari 3 Beta on my work Windows machine to test some sites. It was running fairly well, but one site that I hit crashed every time I hit a menu option. I did some googling, and the error code I received matched that of an application hitting a bad batch of memory. In other words, this is due to a memory corruption error; Aviv Raff lamented the same issue. In addition to the memory problem, MacRumors.com reports additional security breaches.

In any vein, I’m definitely holding off on installing Safari 3 Beta on my MacBook until a more stable release. Not only do I wish to avoid the problems, but the Beta overwrites Safari 2, much to an over-eager web developer’s chagrin.

Only install Safari 3 Beta if you are using Windows and if you need to quickly see how a page is rendered in Safari. Otherwise, hold your horses.

Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac now supports 3D rendering! What does that mean? Now you can utilize:

  • Video editing/rendering software
  • Games requiring 3D rendering (read: most games)
  • OpenGL
  • DirectX
  • Various standard applications as AutoCAD

This isn’t even touching any of the other features included with Parallels 3.0.

Previously, I would only use Parallels for front end web development or for the occasional Windows Media Player use. For any hardcore work or gaming, I would revert to my wintel machine. Now, I can stay with the comfort of my MacBook. There’s no better time to switch to a Mac. View video shorts featuring Parallels at the Parallels blog.

Version 3.0 is not a free update. You can purchase the upgrade or buy new via any reseller. I highly recommend all to learn more about Parallels 3.0, purchase the full version, and/or buy the upgrade; I view this upgrade as 100% worth the $50 pricetag. My credit card, please…

Mac knitters unite!

Poking along, I close iTunes. Not more than one minute later, it relaunches itself.

“Hmm,” I mumble. I close iTunes again. Again, it relaunches itself.

Benjamin Franklin defined insanity as the repitition of acts without variation in expectation of different results. I am certifiable: I close her a third time; to my shock, iTunes relaunches a third time.

It turns out, running the Apple iTunes Controller widget will sometimes result in this behavior. I disabled the iTunes widget, closed iTunes, and the beast did not relaunch itself. There was much rejoicing.

I post this on flickr and not two days later, Apple releases tasty new technicolor shuffles. I want the orange one… anyone want to trade?

The brother has been ranting about the bane of rumor blogs lately. In doing so, he noted that AppleInsider has posted not 19, not 20, but 21 hi-res photos of the tasty orange iPod Shuffle. Did someone make an order of overkill?

I’ve taken my fair share of unpackaging photos, but 21 pictures of a shuffle seems a bit excessive, especially when it’s the same as the first generation… except, wait! It comes in orange!
