Poking along, I close iTunes. Not more than one minute later, it relaunches itself.
“Hmm,” I mumble. I close iTunes again. Again, it relaunches itself.
Benjamin Franklin defined insanity as the repitition of acts without variation in expectation of different results. I am certifiable: I close her a third time; to my shock, iTunes relaunches a third time.
It turns out, running the Apple iTunes Controller widget will sometimes result in this behavior. I disabled the iTunes widget, closed iTunes, and the beast did not relaunch itself. There was much rejoicing.

LOL!
Benjamin Franklin might amend his definition if he was alive today in the world of computers. ;-D

Yet another grateful victim of the ghost of iTunes!

This problem is far more widespread than I had anticipated. I’ll have to test it in Leopard to see if it is still unresolved.
I can understand launching iTunes if a button on the widget is pressed, but just random launching is ridiculous.

I had been thinking it had something to do with the latest Tiger Security Update, but going by the date of the original post, not. But getting rid of the controller widget solved the problem.

Hi, I don’t have the widget installed and still facing the same problem !
Don’t know what to do. I’m not sure but think that I have to empty the PRAM to resolve it.
Really boring, grrrr
