So that machine that I got at a garage sale for four bucks,
I start her up today, and she’s got
- 2000 Pro
- 1GHz Athlon processor
- 40GB hard drive
- Tons of children’s software (including SimPark, which I took the liberty of taking a short break to play with)
I can’t get the floppy drive to work, though. I’m thinking it’s the cable. First, it was reversed from the controller to the drive. Then, the light would come on only when I positioned the cable a certain way.
Oh well. I’m putting the RAM in my mac tonight, so I guess it’s a lost cause. I’d go spend the two bucks I would have to pay for the new cable (employee discounts! woo!) but then I’d have to pull the RAM from the mac.. eh. Plus, the price of the machine would be increased to six dollars, and that would be ghastly. Six dollars for 512MB of RAM and a 40GB hard drive, egads.
Four dollars. I love garage sales.
UPDATE: I’ve added the RAM, and wow, is everything snappier! Crazy, what doubling your RAM can do for you. I noticed immediate results. I’m now at 1.12GB of RAM. I should pull my 128 and replace it with another 512. Nevermind a G5, just get more RAM hehe.
